Meet China’s 113 Cities With More Than One Million People
Chinese urban populations outperformed their rural population in 2010 and marked a historic demographic milestone in the history of the nation. China looked dramatically different only 3 decades ago. In urban areas, only about twenty percent of Chinese people lived, and even many metropolises today were small towns.
Significant parts of the population have since moved from rural land to towns, triggering a rise in numbers in urban areas. The growth of Guangzhou, to the north of Hong Kong, is at the forefront. About 18 million residents migrated to the city from 1980 to the present. A 40-year-old from Guangzhou is one of the largest urban amalgamations in her remote, regional town mushroom.
